Why should one choose a split AC over a window AC?

One thing that most people spend hours pondering over when buying an AC for their homes is whether to go for a window air conditioner or a split air conditioner? Well, deciding this depends on numerous factors that one must consider while buying. Many people opt for split ac because it complements the modern design of the home and takes up less energy, while some still strongly feel that a window AC is a better choice.

A window ac is wall-mounted and is apt for a small room with window space. These air conditioners are pocket-friendly, and the maintenance cost is low. Typically, they come in a single unit and is mounted on the window space. On the other hand, a split ac is mounted on the wall and is typically used for large rooms as its cooling capacity is higher. They do not require a window space for installation and come with a condenser and a compressor. The compressor is placed in the outdoor unit, while the evaporator is present in the indoor unit, which cools the room.

Both ACs have their own set of pros and cons. But comparatively, split ACs have an edge over window ACs and here are some reasons why:
1. Design Options

Split ACs come in various colours and patterns. You can choose one that suits your space, and it will amp up the look and feel of your room instantly. On the other hand, you won't get any color or design options in a window ac, as it comes only in one design and one color i.e., white.

2. Installation

Installing a split AC requires the assistance of a professional, as it is mounted on a wall. They are portable and can be moved to a different home if you decide to shift anytime. On the other hand, Window ACs are also easy to install but are placed on a window frame. It is also portable, but the window frame might need some rework
3. Cooling Power
Split ac is usually designed for larger rooms as they have the potential to cool a room faster. These come in capacities ranging from 1 to 3.5 tons. On the other hand, Window ACs usually come with a 1-ton capacity and are compact and best for small rooms

4. Power Consumption

The power consumption depends a lot on the star rating of the air conditioner. The higher the star rating, the more efficient is the air conditioner. A 5-star AC will consume less energy, nearly 10% less than that a 4-star AC would consume. If you are thinking to buy an AC for a small room, a 3 star 1.5-ton window ac will suffice. However, if you are thinking to buy an air conditioner for a bigger space, opt for a 5-star split AC to save more energy. Pro Tip: Split ACs are more energy efficient

5. Noise Control

Nobody likes a noisy air conditioner. Split ACs make little or no noise, whereas window ACs make a lot of noise while operating. That is because window ACs work against the window and hence produce noise. For office space or home, split AC is a better choice.

Both the AC types have their pros and cons. You must analyze certain factors like budget, price, room space, and features, and get one that suits you the best.  At the end of the day, you will end up saving more and experience better cooling and minimum noise while operating with a Split AC. Panasonic is one such brand that makes world-class split ACs. Its latest range of Smart split ACs is a preferred choice, as it offers all the smart features one could ever ask for. Also, Panasonic ACs come with Miraie feature that lets you remotely control the air conditioner, whether you're at home or anywhere in the world.
